Episode 56: World Championships 2021 and COVID-19 - Transcript

Lae: As you may be able to tell - this is part 3 of our Worlds coverage for this year in Stockholm [Sweden.] In this, we will mostly be focusing on the organization of the competition itself - this has obviously been a running theme of In The Loop's coverage of this competitive season and, sadly, we're going to be revisiting a lot of the themes we've already discussed across all of our episodes this season.

Episode 53: 20/21 National Championships and COVID-19 - Transcript

Kite: This is an episode about the four big national [championships] - Russian, Japanese, US, and Canadian. We're going to be focusing on the Russian and Japanese Nationals in particular but we are not going to be following our usual format of discussing the performances and the results and instead, we're going to be devoting this episode to assessing how these events coped with the COVID restrictions and the impact their actions, or inaction had on the skaters and the rest of the season.

Episode 46: Russian Nationals 2020 - Transcript

Tilda: Speaking of quirky, I want to give a shout out to [Elizaveta] Pasechnik and [Egor] Kolosovskii for their "Jungle Book" Rhythm Dance. That was a lot of fun! I have to admit, I went "Jungle Book!?!" when Ted announced it.

Kat: Yeah, it was really fun and they skated it really well too! And honestly, I am here for teams that go a little bit out of the box with the musical theme style.

Episode 40: Internationaux de France and Cup of China 2019 - Transcript

Niamh: When someone lands their jump, you expect to see some snow, but you're not supposed to see liquid water.

Kite: Like this is advanced snow.

Niamh: I was [talking] to the ones sitting beside me, I was like “We might as well be watching synchronized swimming.”

Evie: Polar ice cap synchronized swimming - coming to an Olympics near you!

Tales of the Blade: Ulrich Salchow - Transcript

Tilda: It seems that was just the way he was because he also offered one of his past medals to Dick Button. [Karly: My dude!] in 1947, and Dick Button at that point came second but Salchow felt that he should have won and a lot of people agreed because people were super salty about judging here. [Salchow] was like, you should have won here -- have this medal!

Karly: Ulrich seems like a pretty respectful dude. You know, giving away his gold medal to who he thinks rightfully should have won. That takes some stripe of character.

Tilda: Right but it's also very savage if you're not competing.

Karly: That is also savage. He's like, I beat you but I'll give it to you.

Tilda: Yeah, at this competition with Dick Button, he wasn't even competing. It was like this other dude who won. Gerschwiler won and then Ulrich was like, no.

Karly: [laughs] “You did not win. Uh-uh, not on my watch.”

Tilda: It was like really savage.

Tales of the Blade: Elaine Zayak - Transcript

Kite: So today is gonna be our second episode of Tales of the Blade, which is a new series where we're gonna dive into the history of figure skating. So the catch here is that one of the hosts is going to be teaching topic of the episode and the other host does not know anything about the topic that is about to be taught to them. So this week we are going to be talking about Elaine Zayak, who has the dubious honor of having one of the best known technical rules named after her. We do have to warn you before getting into this episode that there is going to be some mention of eating disorders, so if that is particularly upsetting to you then please refer to the time stamps for where to skip in the episode. So let's get right into it! Yogeeta can you tell me what the Zayak rule is?

Yogeeta: Oh god, I'm sure I could have told you this when it wasn’t relevant.

Tales of the Blade: Madge Syers - Transcript

Tilda: I'm still stuck on the suit thing. Did they really wear formal wear when they were competing?

Evie: I don't know if they wore formal wear but I guess they wore normal suits they would wear every day kind of thing.

Tilda: They didn't have Adidas back then? (Hosts laugh)

Evie: Ye olde Adidas!

Episode 21: Junior Grand Prix Final - Transcript

Evie: Let's go on to talking about the Junior Grand Prix Final! We talked about the Seniors last week and we're here talking about the Juniors this week. It's the end of the road for the Juniors and the end of Ted's commentary for a while, which makes me sad.

Kat: I mean, I obviously didn't hear Ted's commentary because I was there but I will miss it a lot. I did miss his commentary during the event.

Evie: They should just broadcast it in the arena.

Kat: Yeah!

Episode 20: Grand Prix Final 2018 - Transcript

Evie: So in today's episode we're going to be talking about the 2018 Grand Prix Final. Yay!

Kat: Can't believe it's over!

Evie: It's crazy that it's already at an end.

Tilda: The series is over!

Kat: Yeah, it was amazing like after the last event ended it was just like "Wow... it's over."

Evie: The season is going way too fast.

Tilda: It feels like it's lasted a year or something.

Episode 19: Internationaux de France 2018 - Transcript

Kat: We never would have been able to tell that it was a hexagon, just because everyone was holding it.

Dani: Guys, real talk, do you think that they're going to run out of shapes at one point?

Kat: Who knows, maybe they'll just stick with this the whole time.

Dani: I'll say that 2019 will have squares or triangles.

Tilda: I do wonder if it's like building a brand as avant-garde, you know?
